Nuclear Power Plant Paks II: The nuclear industry had a party today, with UN agency IAEA’s Grossi und Rosatom’s Likhachev
2026-02-05
The occasion for the guests coming together at the construction pits of the Paks 5&6 nuclear reactors was the official construction start. At second glance this is not so much a reason for celebrations, because 2025 was the year Paks 5 was supposed to celebrate start of operations, not construction start.
Also present: IAEA General Secretary Grossi, the picture of him and Rosatom CEO Likhachev pressing the start button can be found at the Hungarian minister Szijjártó’s facebook account; the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) refrained from publishing a press release, but the Hungarian politicians proudly presented the event on their facebook accounts.

It seems that the UN agency IAEA is not aware of the fact that Likhachev is among the Russians who were put on the US sanction list after Russia started the war on Ukraine and that the war is still raging.
Yes, this is very same IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who is constantly leading tough talks and missions to safe the Ukrainian NPP Zaporizhzhia from suffering damages in the war and putting wide parts of Europe at risk of a severe nuclear accident with the boss in the Kremlin who is also responsible for the state company Rosatom; the company which is not only manufacturing reactors but also develops military equipment.
And also there at the Paks II party, Rosatom CEO Alexej Likhachev announced that Russia is willing to export electricity outside of Russia – produced in the Ukrainian NPP Zaporizhzhia.
There is really nothing clean about nuclear energy or its UN “watchdog“, the International Atomic Energy Agency.
